Elise Forbes, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) – After earning her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Southern Connecticut State University, Elise has since been counseling clients for over thirteen years. Her primary focus is working with adolescents and adults experiencing challenges related to stress, mental health, substance abuse, family violence, and family matters. She has gained valuable experience in settings such as residential programs, schools, family service agencies, and acute in-patient units—as well through her work on behalf of her clients with the family civil and criminal court systems.

Elise utilizes Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-oriented Therapy—among other techniques. In each instance, she seeks to find and implement therapeutic approaches and tools that are most effective in meeting each client’s unique needs.

Elise believes that each person possesses the ability to overcome life’s challenges by utilizing their individual strengths and professional support. She seeks to give her clients the comfort of feeling genuinely cared for and safe—without concern for judgment. She establishes a strong working alliance with each, individual client, based on dignity and respect. Above all, Elise considers her clients’ privacy as not merely essential but sacrosanct. Only if requested by her client, and as appropriate to their best interests, Elise may collaborate and engage with schools, the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF), mental health providers and other resources—in an effort to resolve her clients’ challenges and meet their personal goals.

Elise believes that quality mental health can only be achieved and/or enhanced through the exploration and establishment of healthy outlets. These may include and range from such diverse pursuits as spirituality, music getting in touch with nature, to improved diet, exercise, and yoga—among others.
